Day 3 - Culture and Fun!

Alright, I've technically got 15 minutes local time to get this blog posted before I've made you all wait all day before hearing from me! No worries, while this day was full of fun, there is not an overabundance to share with you.

It's Sunday, and while we did not want to impose on a small church to accomodate our group, we did not want to forget about the Lord, so we went to Joel's house and had a sort of service there. This also meant that we were able to sleep in until 10:00! At their house, we learned even more about what we will be doing while we are here, and throughout the day, I spoke with Mr. Archer more specifically about what my role in the trip will be. As it turns out, the video will be our main focus for the trip. We have decided that it would be best to make a short (about 3-4 minute) video giving a very brief history of AMAD, what they are doing now, and their hopes for the future. This will serve mainly a similar function of a movie trailer in that it will get people interested so that they can go to the AMAD website for more information if they are interested. Our hope is that we can create this website and get it up and running by Friday. The domain we were hoping for is already taken, but I believe we still have a very agreeable alternative.

After church, we were able to experience Argentina's finest offerings - namely, steak. Now, I am not usually a red-meat fan, especially if it's quite pink, but I today I had to make an exception. First, the restaurant itself was extremely impressive with fancy glasses, water in chilled glass bottles, and little glasses of concentrated lemon juice of the water (sin gas or con gas - meaning regular or carbonated, respectively). The waiters were extremely well-mannered and the food was incredible! For dessert, I ordered flan - Argentina style. It reminded me of a mideval city with the actual flan as the castle, dulce de leche (a type of caramel - delicious!), and a sea of thin sauce surrounding the rest of the plate. All in all, it was an unforgetable experience.

We spend the next couple hours exploring the city of Mendoza - the "plaza" and the mall area where we had eaten, specifically. From there, we headed back to the girls' house where the guys invaded the pool, and the rest of us took a little more time to relax. I almost feel bad being treated so well here for a mission trip, but I also appreciate experiencing the culture and how the locals here live before immersing myself in the projects here. With a more ambitious video goal, I've got quite a bit of work ahead of me, and I am very excited to see how God works through us!

The rest of the evening we spent together eating dinner (we seem to be doing a lot of eating down here) and debriefing from the day. Since it is getting a bit late, I should probably get to bed. We've got an early morning tomorrow!

Thank you all again for your prayers and support!
